Dance-a-thonThe Youth Club staged a Dance-a-thon (12 hours of dancing) to raise money for the Meninadanca Project in Brazil, which helps Street Girls -- through dance -- to rebuild their lives. Meninadanca is a Christian project linked to the St Ives-based Signpost
International organisation. Saturday's event (November 17) saw non-stop music and dancing from 10 am to 10 pm (at St Helen's Primary School), culminating in an evening disco. The young people showed fantastic commitment and energy and we kept the dance floor occupied throughout the 12 hours. It was great fun but we were all very relieved to see the clock count down to zero, at which point we all collapsed in a heap. It wasn't just the dancers who worked hard, though. Once of the Youth Club Leaders, Steve Tall, supplied nine-hours' worth of music before handing over to another DJ for the evening session. And on Sunday evening at the church Youth Service, Bruce Daniels spoke on the subject of Hope, linking this with the role the young people and the Meninadanca Project has played in giving the girls of Brazil hope for a better life. |
