Renewal Project Scrapbook
We have now started on our Renewal Project, here are some photos to remind us of
how things went
June 2009 - Gravestone Removals
One of the first jobs was to move the old gravestones from where they had been
placed when the hall was originally built. Research showed that these were not
the original locations of these graves so we were allowed to do this ourselves.

July 2009 - One last look at the old building
12 July 2009 - All systems go!
This Sunday we had a little ceremony to kick off the building project by cutting the first turf. Marjery Challans and Malcolm White
(our most longstanding and most recent church members respectively) did the honours while everyone else looked on admiringly.
13th/14th July 2009 - The builders move in
It seems to have been a long time coming but Haymills took over the site on Monday 13th July and have started work
15th July 2009 - Work starts on the building
Week 2 - Things start getting serious
The diggers have arrived and the trenches are being dug.
Week 3 - Starting to see some progress despite the weather
Having dug the trenches, the next thing to do is to start filling them in! (and brick up
more of the windows)
Week 4 - Getting ready for the foundations
Getting ready to pour the concrete foundations and also finish blocking up the windows.
Week 6 - We have concrete!
It has been a bit quiet for the last couple of weeks as we found our contractors had been taken over by a major construction company which slowed everything down while they sorted a few things out.
Anyway, things are moving again and we now have the concrete poured, the kitchen
window is gone and a new door is being created. A small amount of brickwork has
also appeared.
Week 7 - The walls start to go up
The bricks have arrived and the walls are going up

Week 8 - Good progress on the walls
The bricklayers have been busy this week putting up both the external and internal walls, we also now have the roof joists starting to go in.
Week 10 - The metalwork for the roof has been installed
Not many changes to see from the outside over the past two weeks as things
have been happening to the inside of the building and the rotten wood in the
window frames has been replaced, however we now have most of the metalwork in place to support the new roof for the kitchen and office.
Week 11 - The roof for the new meeting rooms and kitchen is in place
Most of the new slates are now in place and it won't be long before we have a
new glass roof in place in the entrance hall.
Update - 25th October
There has not been much in the way of new pictures to add of late as the majority of the activity is now with the internal work. As soon as we have some more pictures they will be posted here.
November 2009 - Things are moving closer to completion
We have some new photographs showing how the glazing for the roof and
entrance are going in. If all keeps to plan the building should be handed back
by Haymills just before Christmas.

Christmas
We have had some delays due to the inclement weather and the building will
now be handed over in early January. We are very much on the home straight now.
Haymills have removed the fencing and the porta-cabins.

9th January
The majority of the work has now finished and we are able to get in and begin
the final jobs that we have to do to complete the job. The first stage was to
sand the floor in the hall ready to have a new finish applied. What a messy job
that was, many thanks to everyone who helped - the floor now looks fantastic.

Almost finished
We really can now see the light at the end of the
tunnel, things are on track for the formal opening of the new building on 6th
February.
