A Week of Prayer, and Setting New Goals

The aim of this week of prayer is to draw near to God, to focus on Him and listen to Him, and to prepare ours hearts as we begin to ask some important questions:

  • Now the hall phase of the Renewal Project is completed, what is God calling us to do next?
  • What goals should we be working towards in the months and years to come?

So as a Leadership Team, the Deacons and I have begun the process of seeking to discern some new goals. We want to sense God’s leading for what should be our new priorities in the coming months and years. Our Baptist way is that these decisions are not for just a few people to make, but rather for the whole membership and congregation to be part of this process of discerning and deciding.

In what follows you will find ideas to help you join with us in praying each day of the week beginning Monday 17th May, all the time having those wider questions in mind. We hope these suggestions will help you to pray, either on your own or with others. If praying on your own, you need only spend 10 minutes – or longer if you are able. You might find it helpful to have a Bible and some paper and a pen to hand. If using the CD, or audio files from the website, you’ll find it helpful to press ‘pause’ in between each prayer suggestion as it’s read out, to concentrate on that prayer for a while, before continuing.

If you belong to a homegroup, why not organise to meet and pray together one day this week? If you are in an accountability group or prayer triplet, could you meet up this week (or even for a few minutes every day)? And why not share how you’re getting on by e-mail or text? If something strikes you as important, or you sense God might be speaking to you in some way, either with an idea or a picture or a significant verse, write down your thoughts and feel free to share them with others, and do feed them back to Nick or to one of the Deacons.

Thank you for your prayers! Let’s seek God, individually and together. After all, there’s no more exciting place to be than in His will; there’s no better cause to be a part of than the cause of His Kingdom.
