A Week of Prayer, and Setting New Goals
Thursday: Serving people

Scriptures: Romans 12 verses 1-13, especially verse 11
The old song says: ‘I want to serve the purpose of God in my generation…I
want to give my life for something that will last for ever. I delight to do Your
will.’ Can you say that?
God has given us all gifts with which we can serve Him, individually, and as
part of his Church. Think about the gifts, skills, talents, and special life
experiences that God has given you. If you’re meeting in a group, tell the
person on your left what you think is one of their special gifts that they bring
to their service of God. Pray and thank God for each other’s gifts.
Here’s a prayer about offering whatever we do to God as worship:
Teach me, my God and King, In all things Thee to see, And what I do in
anything To do it as for Thee.
To scorn the senses’ sway, While
still to Thee I tend: In all I do be Thou the Way, In all be Thou the End.
All may of Thee partake; Nothing so small can be But draws, when acted
for Thy sake, Greatness and worth from Thee.
If done to obey Thy laws,
E’en servile labours shine; Hallowed is toil, if this the cause, The
meanest work divine.
(John Wesley, adapted from George Herbert)
Consider for a moment: if our Church has a gift (one!), what is it? Write it
down. How can we use that gift to serve God more effectively in these
villages? Pray about it.
Romans 12: verse 11 says: ‘Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your
spiritual fervour, serving the Lord.’ How ‘zealous’ are you for serving
the Lord? Ask God to fill you up with spiritual fervour! Pray for those who
work in various aspects of our church’s life, asking God to fill them up with
zeal and spiritual fervour
