FAQsWe asked a lot of people what they wanted to know about Bluntisham Baptist Church and Christianity. Here are some of the questions and answers. What kind of hymns do you sing in your church? We sing a mixture of the best of traditional hymns and many contemporary worship songs, so there is something for everybody. Why do the bishops and vicars you see on telly all speak in a funny voice? I suppose we all sound funny to someone! We don’t think you need to put on a funny voice to speak to God. He knows all about us just as we are, so we might as well be real with Him If I bring my children to church do I have to go out with them if they start to make a noise? Not at all! We have many babies and small children in our services. When we worship as a family, everyone is welcome. We try hard to make sure what we do is interesting and relevant to the children. We have a crèche and Sunday School for young children after about twenty minutes of our services. What happens to the money you take up during the collection? Baptist Churches are independent congregations and usually receive no outside financial support, so mostly the offering is used to pay the minister, the church bills, run the midweek activities, and some is given away to other Christian organisations involved in mission and care both in the UK and elsewhere in the world. If I came to church for the first time would someone show me where to sit? You will receive a friendly welcome when you arrive, someone will make sure you are shown to your seat, and that you have a notice sheet. After the service we have coffee and you will find that many people will introduce themselves to you! You will soon have new friends. Do you have access for wheelchair users? Would you have somewhere for them to sit? Yes, we have space at the front and the back of church for wheelchair users. It is very important to us to make everyone feel welcome. We also have a loop system for those with hearing difficulties. Making improvements to Listed Buildings like ours to provide better facilities for the disabled presents special challenges, but we are actively seeking to make further improvements within the restrictions placed upon us by the law. Will I have to give up beer if I come to church? Some Christians drink alcohol and other don’t for much the same reasons as in the community as a whole. It would be rare for Christians to get drunk, as their faith encourages them to respect their bodies. |
