Church Leaders

Baptists believe that, under God, the government of the local church is best done by church members meeting together in a spirit of prayer and friendship to discuss and agree on what God wants them to do. In a Baptist Church every member is encouraged to be involved and use their gifts.

The Church Meeting appoints the minister and a group of deacons to take responsibility for day-to-day spiritual and practical leadership of the church.

Our leadership team includes:

Nick Hudson - Minister

Nick has been the minister here since September 1999. Before training to be a minister he was a teacher. Married to Wendy, they have two children: Matthew (born in 1999) and Bethany (born in 2001).  Nick's hobbies include sport, especially football and tennis, and singing, especially 'Close Harmony'. His ambition is to belong to a newly-formed 'Bluntisham Tennis Club'.

Nick is passionate about enabling people who are interested in the Christian faith to understand it, to find Jesus, and to find their place in God's family, the church.

Ann Wassall

Ann has been married for 36 years and has two children (age 28 and 24) who are still living at home. "I think they like having their clothes washed and food prepared for them on a regular basis!", she says.

Ann was a civil servant and is now enjoying her retirement.  She has been worshipping at Bluntisham for about 20 years and this is her second term as a deacon.   Ann was baptised on Easter Sunday, 2003, which she says, was one of the happiest days of her life.

Angharad Durkin

Angharad, or Aggie as she is better known, has been attending Bluntisham Baptist Church since she was 5, and after a brief stint at University in Durham returned to the area.

She now works as a forensic scientist and says it has little resemblance to CSI.

Aggie has recently joined the diaconate as deacon for youth and children and is also involved in Sunday School and music group.

Her hobbies include a lot of reading and watching films.

Gillian Sudgen - Treasurer

Gillian has been attending the church since her family moved here in 1984, and has been church treasurer since 1996.  Gillian cooks exceedingly good cakes and preserves for the local Country Market.  Not surprisingly therefore she also organises much of the church's catering too.

Gillian has two grown-up daughters; Isabel and Joanna (a GP in Leeds).  Gillian says that as treasurer she has learnt that "God can always be trusted to provide everything we really need".

John Holmes

John is married to Joy in 1969 and has three children and two granddaughters. He was baptised in 1987, moving to St. Ives in 1989 and joining the church in Bluntisham. He helps leading worship, Sunday Half-hour, part of the welcoming and visitation teams, and helps in the café (looks great in the plastic apron and pink marigolds).

He retired three years ago after spending over 40 years occupied in transport and, latterly, work on the new developments. He is now involved, with others, in seeking to build churches in the new communities, the EBA, Community Transport, and, occasionally, driving the Connections Bus.

Aside from his interest in transport and community building, he is a football supporter, if a Leicester City season ticket holder can be so characterised.

Malcolm Lee

Malcolm lives in the Wood End part of the village. Married to Lynn and with 3 children, Malcolm is involved in several areas of church life, from buildings to football and world mission. In spare moments sport is high on the agenda and a secret ambition is to play in a rock band.

Rob Gore

Rob has been married to Michelle since 1992; they have three young daughters, Mili, Jessica and Poppy.

Rob has been in the banking industry since leaving full time education in 1989 and has been a Commercial Banking Manager since 1997.

He became a Christian at the age of sixteen and has led youth groups and home groups in the past at previous churches. Rob and Michelle moved to Bluntisham in 1999 and started to attend Bluntisham Baptist Church regularly in 2001. Rob loves sport, especially football, but can also been seen out on the golf course in fair weather and is also a passionate foodie!

Rob was first elected to the leadership team in 2005 and held the role of Deacon for Discipleship for two years before taking over responsibility for Fabric & Facilities when Gordon stood down and is also assistant treasurer. He was re-elected at the AGM In 2008. He's now a fully fledged member of the team and says: "the first three years have flown by. Finding the time to help BBC make a difference in our community is sometimes hard to do but it is so rewarding! Gordon's shoes are big ones to fill, but I'm mostly enjoying the challenge!"

Dan Horrex

Dan and his family moved to Bluntisham at the start of 2007. Dan works as a manager in the IT department at Huntingdonshire District Council. He manages a small team and leads a number of projects. He enjoys watching rugby and football, and going to live music gigs.

Dan has been a Christian for about 18 years and was brought up in a Christian family. He was baptised at St Thomas Church, Sheffield whilst at University. In the past he has been a homegroup leader and also led the 18-30’s group. He enjoys telling people about his faith and has led an Alpha course at our church.

Sheena Glanville

Sheena is married to Charles and they have two children, Josh and Chloe who attend St. Helen’s school. Sheena also has two ‘twenty something’ children – Louise, an actor and writer for a theatre company, and Richard who works in IT development.

Sheena is a Registered Nurse and was most recently managing a Cardiac Unit. She also has teaching qualifications and now works for a training company supporting candidates working in Health & Social Care settings to achieve relevant vocational qualifications.

Sheena has attended Baptist churches all her life and was baptised at the age of 16. Over the years she has been involved in Sunday school work and choirs and was also a Worship Leader at Sandy Baptist church. ‘I have always had a real sense of God’s care and love, especially through the difficult times in life. He is just not prepared to let me go and I am grateful for that.’

Sheena moved to Bluntisham from Sandy in 2003. Since then she has been involved in the music group, leading bible study at Space and helping at (and recently taking over the management of) the Beacon Café.
