If you get a kick out of football but have stopped playing, there couldn’t be a better time to get back into it.

prayers01Bluntisham Baptist church is running fun football sessions of six-a-side for men at the One Leisure St Ives on Wednesday evenings.

The men who play there put the emphasis on enjoyment, with organisers keen to meet the needs of players who prefer to play in a non-competitive environment.

Russ Banks, who runs the sessions, says:
"Football should be fun, and you can’t enjoy yourself if team-mates spend the whole match moaning – at you, your opposition or the ref. We like to play in an atmosphere that takes the pressure off, so a sliced shot or a mis-placed pass won’t see you disappear under a deluge of abusive comments.

We start at 9pm, which might sound late, but it’s actually an ideal time for people with youngsters, because they can still help with bath-time and bed-time stories at home and then nip out for a kickabout afterwards. We have a good bunch of lads who turn up, all the way through the age range from teens to 40-plus."

The church also has the occasional 11-a-side match, and has been sending teams to Tirana, Albania, for football weeks since 2004.

Anyone interested in joining the Bluntisham Baptist Church football sessions can simply just turn up on a Wednesday and ask for BankC or Graybo. (Russell Banks and Graham Harris).
